Liverpool won 1-0 at West Bromwich Albion to further boost their hopes of a top-four spot and a place in next season's Champions League.
Rashford gave United the perfect start at Old Trafford with the opener on seven minutes.
Herrera added a second on 49 minutes with a deflected strike.
At West Brom, the pressure was on Liverpool after City had replaced them in third place on Saturday thanks to a victory at Southampton.
