Chinese FM Slams Pelosi's Visit to Taiwan

Beijing, August 11 (QNA) - Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi has commented on US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to China's Taiwan region, saying Pelosi's visit to Taiwan has been proved to be a sheer political provocation.
Wang said that this visit is a serious violation of the commitments made by the US side and a serious violation of China's sovereignty, according to China's (Xinhua) News Agency.
"China will, of course, take necessary and resolute countermeasures to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity, uphold the basic norms governing international relations on non-interference in other countries' internal affairs and truly maintain peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait," Wang added.
These statements come after Pelosi's visit to Taiwan, amid strong condemnation and opposition from China, which carried out the largest exercises in its history around the island, in response to the visit.
Located in East Asia off the coast of China, the island of Taiwan is one of Beinjing's most sensitive issues, as it considers the island an inalienable part of China, while Taiwan rejects any attempts of separatism aimed at the island's independence from the Beijing authorities. (QNA)
