Turkish Interior Minister Confirms Thwarting Bomb Plot in Istanbul

Istanbul, August 11 (QNA) - Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu announced today that Turkish security teams managed to foil a bomb plot that was targeting Istanbul and other cities against the Turkish forces stationed in northern Syria's Azaz city.
The minister tweeted on his official Twitter account saying that Istanbul security forces managed, in a successful operation, to capture a militant affiliated with Kurdistan Workers' Party who was intending to detonate the bomb.
He said that the intelligence division of Hatay police and the Syria task force carried out a joint security operation in the Marea region of north Syria, adding that the operation resulted in capturing a member of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, in addition to seizing an explosive belt containing 1.8 kilograms of explosives and large quantities of ammunition.
In a related development, the Turkish ministry of interior said in a statement that the operation carried out by the division of Hatay police in Istanbul also resulted in apprehending three persons. It pointed out that the joint teams had seized weapons, fake documents and digital equipment whose contents have never been disclosed yet. (QNA)
