Japan, US and Australia Discuss Defense Cooperation

Tokyo, October 02 (QNA) - Defense ministers of Japan, the United States and Australia discussed ways to enhance defense cooperation between the three countries during a meeting held last night in the US State of Hawaii.
According to the Japanese Broadcasting Corporation (NHK), Japanese Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada met with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Australian Defense Minister Richard Marles to discuss ways to enhance joint exercises, defense equipment and technology cooperation.
The Japanese Defense Minister assured the close coordination between the three countries is crucial more than ever, in order to maintain and promote the freedom and openness of the Indo-Pacific region based on the rule of law.
Hamada spoke about the Japanese government's plan to review the national security strategy and related defense programs by the end of this year, to further enhance the country's defense capabilities within five years; noting that the government is determined to ensure that Japan's defense spending is significantly increased.
