Armed Forces Announces Application of National Service for Qatari Nationals
Doha, February 19 (QNA) - General Command of the Armed Forces has
announced the application of the national service system, which
obliges Qatari nationals who have completed the age of 18 to serve
military and academic training, in a vision to build up a young
solid and disciplined generation able to contribute to advancing
the development of the country, leading to the construction of the
homeland and the citizen.
The National Service includes Qatari citizens aged from 18 to
35 years old. Those who have obtained secondary schooling or less
will receive a four-months military and academic training, while
those who are obtaining admission to local and foreign universities
as well as university graduates will serve a three-months military
and academic training.
Speaking at a press conference on the occasion today, the
Commander of the Qatar Emiri Air Force (QEAF) , Major General
Mubarak Mohammad Al-Kumait Al Khayarin, who is also the Head of the
National Service said that "the National Service Act to be
issued very soon will outline all the details and matters related
to joining the national service, the mechanism of action and the
calling for joining the service, and will also explain the process of
exemptions, postponement and other points.
"The conditions of the citizens will also be considered, he said
adding that the national service will be postponed for those who
wish to attend university study until the end of their studies."
With regard to the special status of the Qatari women, as a large part of the community Maj.General Al Khayarin, pointed out to the possibility of their participation in the national service, saying that a study is being conducted on this regard and it will be announced when it has been finalized ". He noted that that the the national service for females will not focus too much on military training taking into account the values of the society , but instead they will find the specific method that enables them to contribute to national service, including participation in the security institutions, social or cultural or ambulance and other fields. He also stressed that participants in the program will learn discipline, commitment and adherence to systems which is one of the positives that characterize military service. Maj. Gen. Al Khayarin revealed that the first batch of undergraduates who will perform the national service will include about 500 students, while the number of students from secondary school graduates would be between 1500 to 2000 students.(END)
