FEC Announces New Strategy to Promote Culture of National Conservation
Doha, March 14 (QNA) - The Friends of the Environment Center (FEC) announced its program of activities during the spring season which includes a series of projects and initiatives that aim to achieve the objectives of the center in guiding youth towards preserving and developing the environment and contributing to its protection.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Culture and Sports (MCS), Chairman of FEC Farhoud Al Hajri said that the center seeks to achieve the vision of the Ministry in promoting environmental culture among youth through its various activities which will held from 8 to 12 April a training course for girls on the importance of insects and how to save them (mummification) for hundreds of years, and identify the types of insects important in the Qatari environment and its role in the ecological balance of living organisms in the environment. He added that in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipalities and Environment (MME) and the participation of the youth centers affiliated to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Civil Society, the center will also launch a rehabilitation project for green landscapes in order to protect, preserve and develop biodiversity, where one of them will be rehabilitated by following the scientific methods of protecting biodiversity.
The official pointed out that the Center is interested in the field of research and studies within its strategy during this period. He explained that the implementation of research and studies are carried out with the participation of school students to provide them with scientific expertise and knowledge regarding the Qatari environment in a practical way, which helps them to create ideas that help preserve the components of the environment.
Al Hajri also pointed out that the center signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Health to carry out a national survey of public health pests and pathogens in Qatar. He added that the Center signed a memorandum of understanding with Qatar Museums to supply the new National Museum with samples of insects, spiders, scorpions and others, classified scientifically and recorded all the environmental data on where and when they spread in the Qatari environment to be exhibited in the natural life hall of the new National Museum.
The environmental cultural Competition organized by FEC has ended with spreading environmental awareness among school students in various stages, with the participation of 36 schools in different stages of study.
This Competition featured environmental topics on water, air, soil pollution, global warming, climate change, desertification and ecological balance, as well as questions related to the human body: parts, functions and diseases, Astronomy: the solar system, as well as questions about Muslim and Western scientists in the fields of Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.
