Stockholm, June 12 (QNA) - The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) today concluded the Baltops 22 exercises, the largest of its kind for the alliance in the Baltic Sea.
The exercises, which began on June 5, took place on the Swedish island of Gotland, with the participation of 14 countries of the alliance, in addition to Sweden and Finland, which are not members of NATO.
45 ships and 7800 soldiers participated in Baltops 22.
Swedish Defense Minister Peter Hultqvist said that Russian fighters approached the aircraft participating in the maneuvers, describing this behavior as unacceptable.
Russian ships had earlier carried out military maneuvers in the Baltic Sea, coinciding with the exercises conducted by NATO, in the shadow of the increase in tension against the backdrop of the ongoing war in Ukraine.
"Tactical naval groups of the Baltic Fleet have left their bases and are deployed in designated areas," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
About 60 Russian ships and 40 planes and helicopters are participating in these exercises, which take place on land at training centers in the Kaliningrad region. (QNA)
