Doha, June 13 (QNA) - 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum announced a partnership with the International Physical Literacy Association (IPLA), Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and UNESCO, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), and the Generation Amazing Community Club to promote and develop physical literacy across Qatar and the region.
The Discovering Physical Literacy conference will be held at the Museum from June 22 to 23, coinciding with the International Olympic Day.
The conference will also witness the launch of a campaign entitled "Qatar National Trip to Physical Literacy". The concept of the trip seeks to introduce the idea of physical literacy presenting examples from around the world about places of physical literacy and its profound impact, as well as holding sessions to discuss the application of that concept in Qatar and the region.
The concept of physical literacy involves a holistic and lifelong educational approach through adopting a lifestyle of movement and physical activity. Physical literacy brings great physical, psychological, social, and cognitive benefits to health and wellness. It also contributes to enhancing academic performance and spatial awareness and supporting the development of healthy lifestyle habits in children and youth.
Director of the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic Sports Museum Abdulla Al Mulla said in a statement Monday that physical literacy is an essential element in education and the development of moral and intellectual knowledge. It has been proven that understanding and applying the concept of physical literacy plays an important role in addressing rising child obesity and rates of inactivity, which is a problem currently afflicting many developing countries.
As an institution founded on the principles of the Olympic spirit, the Museum strives to embrace new ways of encouraging all people to positively engage in physical activity, physical education, and sport. The institution looks forward to the vibrant dialogue that will take place during the conference in June, he added.
The conference will also witness in-depth discussions regarding the establishment of a framework aimed at implementing physical literacy within education, sport, health, and the environment in Qatar and the region.
The conference will feature presentations by prominent experts in the physical literacy field from the UK, Canada, and Qatar, who will discuss the accelerating application of physical literacy as a guiding concept for the adoption of a healthy lifestyle around the world. Attendees will also have the opportunity to have personal discussions with international participants. (QNA)
