Washington, June 14 (QNA) - US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan met Monday with Chinese Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission Yang Jiechi.
The meeting, which was held in Luxembourg, included discussion of a number of regional and global security issues, as well as key issues in US-China relations, according to a statement released by the White House.
Sullivan described his talks with Yang as a "candid" attempt to manage the dynamic between the two rival powers.
He also underscored the importance of maintaining open lines of communication to manage competition between the two countries.
Tensions have escalated recently between Washington and Beijing, following US President Joe Biden's statements last month that the US would intervene militarily if China attacked Taiwan, while China considers self-governing Taiwan as its territory. (QNA)
