President of Somalia Appoints New Prime Minister

Mogadishu, June 15 (QNA) - The President of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud announced today the appointment of Hamza Abdi Barre as the new prime minister of the country.
The Somali National News Agency (SONNA) stated that the Somali president requested the new prime minister to embark on forming a new government.
The Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre is an academic and politician from the state of Jubaland in southern Somalia, and a member of parliament, and he was a member of the Peace and Development Party.
In addition, his appointment comes at a time when Somalia is facing security and economic challenges with the increase in cases of acute malnutrition in this country, which is located in the Horn of Africa, in addition to battling a wave of drought after four consecutive seasons of rain, where extremist groups are active in a numerous regions.
