Washington, June 16 (QNA) - US President Joe Biden's administration announced on Wednesday it was providing an additional $1 billion in military aid to Ukraine.
Biden spoke by phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday ahead of the announcement.
"I informed President Zelensky that the United States is providing another $1 billion in security assistance for Ukraine, the US President said in a statement after the call.
"We also remain committed to supporting the Ukrainian people," Biden added.
The announcement came as US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin met with NATO allies and other partners for two days of talks in Brussels, focused on support for Kyiv and broader changes in transatlantic.
Speaking at a press conference in Brussels, Austin said that the weapons will help Ukraine repel the attack in Donbas region, adding that more aid will come from countries such as Germany, which will send long-range artillery missile systems, and Slovakia, which pledged to provide helicopters and ammunition.
