Shura Council Participates in 8th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians

Sharm El-Sheikh, (Egypt), June 16 (QNA) - The Shura Council participated in the 8th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which was held over two days in the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh, organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union in partnership with the Egyptian House of Representatives.
The Shura Council was represented in the conference by HE Umair Abdullah Al-Nuaimi, and HE Mohammed bin Omar Al-Mannai, both members of the Council.
Discussions during the conference focused on several topics, the most important of which are the role of young parliamentarians and enhancing their position in parliamentary action to combat climate change, the impact of climate change on human rights, strengthening links between young parliamentarians and civil society in the process of climate conservation, and supporting developing countries in addressing climate change.
In this context, HE Umair Abdullah Al-Nuaimi, in his intervention during the conference, indicated that the impact of climate change includes all parts of the world, indicating that the size of the impact varies according to the region.
His Excellency referred to the measures taken by the State of Qatar under the leadership of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, in order to adapt to climate change and mitigate its effects, based on the principle of climate justice with the aim of protecting human rights and ensuring the well-being of all members of Qatari society. .
His Excellency praised the Qatar National Environment and Climate Change Strategy as a basic pillar of public policies in the State of Qatar in order to preserve the environment for the benefit of present and future generations, the establishment of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, and the establishment of the Accreditation Authority (GSAS Trust) to assist public and private institutions in construction and infrastructure projects in their quest for green transformation. and other actions aimed at adapting to climate change and mitigating its effects.
For his part, HE Mohammed bin Omar Al-Mannai stressed that the dilemma of climate change prompts everyone to make unremitting efforts to try to mitigate its effects, and for all countries to achieve this through cooperation and support for the most affected countries.
His Excellency referred to the State of Qatar's support for international efforts to confront climate change, by contributing to financing developing countries through the OPEC Fund for International Development, and providing assistance to those most affected by climate change, as well as contributing an amount of USD 100 million to support small island developing states and least developed countries to deal with climate change, natural hazards and environmental challenges.
