Doha, June 18 (QNA) - HE Ambassador of the Republic of Sierra Leone to the State of Qatar Haja Ishata Thomas underlined that the Republic of Sierra Leone and the State of Qatar have enjoyed historical, fruitful, and solid bilateral relations over the past 40 years.
Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the occasion of the visit of HE President of the Republic of Sierra Dr. Julius Maada Bio to the State of Qatar, HE the Ambassador said that given its strategic geographic location and the highly revered diplomatic credence enjoyed by the State of Qatar, Sierra Leone immediately expanded its diplomatic representation with Qatar since 1979.
Since that historic moment, Sierra Leone has always maintained warm and fraternal relations at all levels; diplomatic, bilateral, multilateral economic, as well as close collaboration with the State of Qatar, thus, this has further effectively strengthened and deepened the relations of the two counties, she added.
HE the Ambassador pointed out that when HE the President of Sierra Leone Dr. Julius Maada Bio assumed office in 2018, the first country he visited was the beautiful State of Qatar. This shows the significance the government and the people of the Republic of Sierra Leone do attach to the State of Qatar. The Government and friendly people of the State of Qatar have provided numerous development assistance to the Republic of Sierra Leone, especially in the education sector and the recent support in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. On the other hand, the Republic of Sierra Leone has also supported the State of Qatar's bids at the multilateral level.
HE the Ambassador added that to further strengthen and deepen trade and investment opportunities between the two countries, a team of experts from the Republic of Sierra Leone has just concluded a business visit to the State of Qatar to carry out presentations to showcase the country's trade and investment potentials. The Sierra Leone business delegation engaged private investors at the Qatar Chamber of Commerce to showcase Sierra Leone's Trade and Investment potential and presented a list of potential projects for investment, aiming to woo (potential) investors and increase Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Sierra Leone.
Similarly, the delegation met with Qatar Investment Authority officials and discussed a number of business opportunities, focusing primarily on brownfield projects, which entailed investing in existing projects. The two sides also highlighted the construction of seaports, hotels and renewable energy as possible investment ventures.
