Bamako, June 19 (QNA) - A soldier from the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) was killed today when a mine, targeting one of the mission's patrols, exploded in Kidal, northern Mali.
El-Ghassim Wane, Head MINUSMA, said that the soldier was wounded by a mine explosion, and died of his wounds in a hospital in Kidal.
Wane added on Twitter: "Terrific news added to the long list of our colleagues who lost their lives while carrying out their duties in Mali." About 13,000 soldiers from several countries have been deployed in Mali as part of the United Nations peacekeeping mission since 2013.
It is noteworthy that the UN Security Council had extended the work of MINUSMA to June 30, 2022. (QNA)
