GCC Secretary General Affirms Keenness to Provide Relief, Assistance to Refugees

Riyadh, June 20 (QNA) - Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Dr. Nayef Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf affirmed that GCC states are always keen to provide relief and assistance to refugees in accordance with the humanitarian principles enshrined in the relevant international conventions and treaties, and the true teachings of Islam which emphasizes on the spirit of brotherhood, tolerance and assistance of all needy and afflicted people.
On the occasion of the World Refugee Day, which falls on June 20 each year, Dr. Al-Hajraf called on the international community to unite to protect refugees around the world, for what they have suffered as a result of wars, violence, persecution and disasters, in a manner that preserves their dignity and rights.
He also underlined the firm stances of GCC countries in harnessing all the capabilities and capacities for refugees in the world and providing them with health and social care, food and relief assistance, The GCC Secretary General also noted the efforts made by the GCC countries with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and their positive and fruitful impact in helping refugees to face difficult living conditions.
Dr. Nayef Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf expressed concern about the noticeable increase in the number of refugees around the world, stressing the GCC states' sympathy and continuous support for everything that would contribute to alleviating the suffering of refugees, and their keenness and hope that peace would prevail in the whole world, so that the refugees could return to their homelands.
