Ouagadougou, June 20 (QNA) - The army in Burkina Faso announced today that it killed 128 armed elements in several operations in June.
A statement issued by the Army General Staff said that based on intelligence information, several armed elements' hideouts were identified and large offensive operations were launched against them, adding that the artillery support for ground units was especially decisive.
The statement added that the attacks on the regions of "Buraso" and "Zonakoy" only, resulted in the elimination of at least 100 militants.
Eleven soldiers of the Burkina Faso army were recently killed, as a result of an armed attack in the north of the country.
For years, the Burkinabe army has been facing armed groups who often target farmers and herders, rob them of their property, and then flee.
Authorities in the country announced last month that at least 50 civilians were killed, in an attack carried out by unidentified gunmen in the east of the country.
The G5 Sahel formed in 2014 a special force estimated at five thousand soldiers from the armies of Mauritania, Chad, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, and Mali to confront the armed groups. (QNA)
