Manila, June 21 (QNA) - Eighty earthquakes were recorded in Mount Bulusan in Sorsogon in southeast of the Philippine capital, Manila, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported on Tuesday.
Phivolcs said that initially reported 65 volcanic earthquakes on Monday night, higher than the one volcanic earthquake in the last monitoring period.
Phivolcs said the volcano emitted 660 tons of sulfur dioxide, with the plumes reaching 300 meters high and drifting west-southwest of the province.
Mount Bulusan is the highest peak in Sorsogon province and covers an area of 3,672 hectares. The last eruption of the volcano was in 2017.
The Philippines is witnessing frequent volcanic and seismic activity due to its location on the "Ring of Fire" in the Pacific Ocean, where tectonic plates intersect. (QNA)
