Moscow, June 23 (QNA) - Earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale hit the coast of Kamchatka territory near the Russian Kuril Islands on Thursday.
According to the Russian Yuzhno Sakhalinsk seismological station, the quake was at a depth of 62 km, and its epicenter was located 294 km southwest of the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy in the Kamchatka region.
No casualties or damage were reported from the earthquake, and no tsunami warning was issued.
Earthquakes regularly hit different parts of the Pacific belt, including the Kuril Islands, due to their presence on areas where many tectonic plates meet, which cause frequent volcanic and seismic activity. (QNA)
