  • SOMALILAND

Mogadishu, August 02 (QNA) - The Somali army announced on Tuesday the launch of a military operation against the remnants of the Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabab movement in the central province of Hiran.
The army said in a statement that violent confrontations took place between its forces and the movement's militias in the Bukure area, which resulted in the death of many militants, without specifying their numbers, pointing out that the governor of Hiran and officers are leading the ongoing operation between the cities of Mahas and Beledweyne in the Bukure area.
Al-Shabaab have not commented on the reports of the dozens of deaths so far.
Somali forces have been fighting for more than a decade against Al-Shabaab militants, who have adopted many attacks that have claimed the lives of hundreds of civilians and security personnel. (QNA)
