FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022: FIFA Highlights Tunisia's 6th Participation in World Cup

Zurich, August 01 (QNA) - Tunisia participation in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 is the sixth in its history, as it competes in the tournament that begins on November 21, in one group with France, the former champion, in addition to Denmark and Australia, as they qualified from inter-confederation play-offs.
Despite the impressive record of the Tunisian team in the World Cup, which reached 15 previous matches, Tunisia never met any of the teams in the its group in the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.
On its official website, the FIFA reviewed the record of Tunisia's most prominent matches against France, Denmark and Australia, all of which came outside the World Cup.
The Tunisian team is the first Arab team to win a World Cup match, during the FIFA World Cup Argentina 1978 against Mexico.
Against France, the Tunisian team met in five previous occasions, between official and friendly matches. The first confrontation between the two teams was in the Mediterranean Games of 1971, and the French team played it with substitute players, and the match ended in favor of Tunisia 2-1. In 1978, the two teams met in a friendly match at the Lille club, which the French team won 2-0, during which Michel Platini and Christian Dalger scored.
In the new millennium, the Tunisian team played a friendly match against France on three occasions, the first was after the end of the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea and Japan and ended in a 1-1 draw. In August 2008, the French team made its only victory over Tunisia in the new century, with a score of (1-3) in a friendly match held at the Stade de France, attended by about 75,000 spectators, where Thierry Henry scored a double, Karim Benzema one goal, and Issam Jomaa scored the only goal for Tunisia.
The last confrontation between the two teams took place when the French national team was preparing for the FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010 in May, weeks before the start of the tournament, and the two teams tied (1-1).
As for Denmark, the Tunisian team played only one match which was held in May 2002 as part of the two teams preparations for the World Cup. The European team was seeking to play a match against an African opponent before facing Senegal, while Tunisia wanted to play against a team that was close in style to Belgium. The match ended with Denmark winning 2-1, and Tunisia's only goal at the time was Ziad Jaziri, in front of about 20,000 spectators at Kimiidera Athletic Stadium in Japan.
As for Australia, the Tunisian team played twice historically, the first was a friendly match and was held at El Menzah Stadium in October 1997, and the guests won 3-0. As for the second match, it was an official match in one of the FIFA tournaments, specifically in the Confederations Cup Germany 2005, and Tunisia won at the time, two goals without a response.
In general, the Tunisian team played eight previous matches against its opponents in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, between official and friendly matches. The team won twice, lost in four matches and drew twice. Tunisia scored eight goals and received 13 goals.
And in a reading of the most prominent numbers and statistics monitored by FIFA for the Tunisian national team matches, the French team is considered to have scored the most goals against Tunisia among the teams of its group in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, with eight goals. On the other hand, the French team received the most goals from its Tunisian opponent among other teams in the same group.
The Tunisian team also suffered 2 defeats against France and they drew in two matches.
As for the largest number of goals scored by the Tunisian team in one match against the teams in its group in the World Cup in Qatar was two goals, and was against France and Australia. Tunisia only won on two occasions, one against France in the Mediterranean Games, and the other against Australia in the Confederations Cup.
historically, the Australian team has not scored a goal against Tunisia in official matches, as the only match that officially brought them together ended with Tunisia winning with two goals without a response. (QNA)
