Tokyo, August 03 (QNA) - Japanese Cabinet Affairs Minister Hirokazu Matsuno said today that Tokyo has conveyed its concerns to Beijing over China's plan to start military exercises near the island of Taiwan.
In a statement, Hirokazu added that Japan is concerned about China's planned military activities "because the relevant area overlaps with Japan's exclusive economic benefit area," noting that the exercises are planned to be conducted using live ammunition.
He said: Peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait is important not only to Japan's security, but also to the stability of the international community, stressing that the Japanese government adheres to its position that the Taiwan crisis should be resolved through dialogue.
China announced the military exercises after the arrival of US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan on Tuesday. (QNA)
