New York, August 02 (QNA) - The UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, announced the Yemeni parties' agreement to extend the armistice on the same terms for an additional two months from August 2, 2022, until October 2, 2022.
"I am pleased to announce that the parties have agreed to extend the truce, under the same terms, for an additional two months, from 2 August 2022 until 2 October 2022," Hans Grundberg said in a statement. "This truce extension includes a commitment from the parties to intensify negotiations to reach an expanded truce agreement as soon as possible."
"In order to consolidate the opportunity provided by the truce to pivot toward sustainable peace, I will also intensify my efforts with the parties to reach as soon as possible an expanded truce agreement. I have shared with the parties a proposal for an expanded truce agreement, and I have received from both sides substantive comments on this proposal," he added.
Grundberg thanked all sides for being able to extend the ceasefire, which has been the longest period of a truce since the war broke out seven years ago.
Since the second of last April, Yemen entered into a truce under the supervision of the United Nations, which included a comprehensive cease-fire on all fronts for two months, and the extension of the truce on the second of last June for two additional months. (QNA)
