Istanbul, August 06 (QNA) - The Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding held a number of meetings with researchers and specialists in the field of translation at a number of universities in Turkey, as part of a tour of the award's media team.
These events come as the deadline for nominations for the Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding, scheduled for August 15, is approaching Media Spokeswoman for the Award Dr. Hanan Al-Fayyad said that these meetings seek to introduce the award directly and encourage distinguished Turkish translators to participate in it, especially that the Turkish languish is the main language this year.
During a meeting with translators and researchers at the Istanbul 29 Mayis University, Al-Fayyad drew attention to the close ties between the Turkish and Arab peoples, especially that recent years have witnessed a qualitative leap in the field of translation specifically from Arabic to Turkish for literary works, which contributed to changing the stereotypical image about Arabs, praising the interest of Turkish people in learning Arabic and studying the field of translation in depth. She said in this regard: "translation contributes to achieving cultural rapprochement between the Arab and Turkish worlds, which will result in an increase in the cognitive achievement between the two languages".
Al-Fayyad expressed, during a meeting with Director of the Eurasian Studies and Farabi Research Center of the Istanbul University Dr. Abdullah Kızılcık and a number of academics at Istanbul University, her appreciation for the efforts made by Turkish universities to teach Arabic properly.
She called on Turkish translators to choose the appropriate materials for translation, which should be in accordance with the conditions of the award, to participate and be able to win the award, pointing to the extent to which the award appreciates translators and their important role in strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between peoples.
For his part, Director of the Arab Center for Education and Research Dr. Ibrahim Al-Halalsheh said that "the Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding highlighted people who can be described as unknown soldiers, who transfer knowledge, science and cultures from one language to another and from one people to another, and perhaps from one continent to another, and therefore the existence of such awards makes the public aware that there are people who deserve recognition and their efforts deserve to be magnified, these are translators".
He pointed out that the award sought to honor those who are trying to convey experiences with all professionalism and accuracy, as the translator combines science and art because he transfers the impact from the source language to the recipient language.
Meanwhile, Hamza Kara Dag, a Turkish translator, said despite the global openness, the translation profession has lost some of its splendor in recent years due to the lack of appreciation of the important and precise role played by the translator, whether in the transmission of the word or culture, as the translator is a link between different peoples".
He added:" The Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding has completely changed things, and encouraged hundreds of translators to search for the best works to translate them from and into different languages, which will help facilitate the exchange of cultures between different peoples, " noting that he is looking forward to participating next year in the award, and this prompted him to insist on creativity and accuracy and quality to produce a translation that lives up to the award level.
The Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding was launched in 2015, in recognition of the role of translators in building bridges of communication between nations, rewarding the outstanding people in this field, as well as encouraging creativity, consolidating high values, spreading diversity, pluralism and openness.(QNA) .
