77th Session of UN General Assembly Begins

New York, September 13 (QNA) - The 77th session of the UN General Assembly kicked off today in New York with aim of tackling many of the crises currently facing the world.
It is held under the theme "A watershed moment: transformative solutions to interlocking challenges." In his opening speech, President of the 77th UN General Assembly Csaba Korosi called world leaders on responding to the world's most urgent humanitarian needs and to work together by focusing on what unites everyone. He highlighted that the war in Ukraine was a turning point that could turn war into part of everyday life. He stressed the need to end this war due to its devastating impact on development and people.
For his part, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that "We face a world in peril across our work to advance peace, human rights and sustainable development. From conflicts and climate change. To a broken global financial system that is failing developing countries. To poverty, inequality and hunger. To divisions and mistrust." He stressed that addressing common challenges will require continued solidarity. He also stressed that diplomacy, dialogue, and negotiations, are the best tools to ensure a more peaceful world.
