Rome, September 16 (QNA) Civil Protection Department in Italy announced today the death of seven people along the Adriatic coast in the center of the country,due to bad weather last night.
The Department said that the seven victims died in the province of Ancona in the Marche region in central Italy, adding that several other people, including a child, were reported missing.
The President of the Marche region, Francesco Acquaroli, said on his Facebook account that he is following the development of the serious weather crisis that struck the region, especially
rescue operations, indicating that there is a state of great fear now.
The Italian Civil Protection authorities issued a warning on Thursday to the residents of the need to stay in higher areas during the flash floods that hit the region.
The Ancona provincial government said the flooding was the result of "continuous and prolonged rain" yesterday afternoon.
In Ancona province, many areas were deprived of electricity and communication lines, and schools closed their doors today in the most affected areas.
About 400 mm of rain fell on Thursday evening in two hours, an amount that usually falls during six months in this region.(QNA)
