Baghdad, September 18 (QNA) - The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity announced today the achievement of an unprecedented production of electric power, with a capacity of more than 24 thousand megawatts.
The ministry said, in a statement, that it had achieved an unprecedented production of the electric power system, which reached 24 thousand and 47 megawatts, the highest production load that the system has reached since its establishment, confirming the existence of high stability to provide citizens with electricity.
It expected to achieve a higher increase in production in the coming days by entering a number of stations and units into service, to reach more than 1,000 new megawatts, pointing out that the stations that will be operational are Salah al-Din Thermal, Rumaila and Maysan compounds and Shatt al-Basra.
The Ministry of Electricity stated, last July, that it was facing a shortage in electricity generation by about 12,000 megawatts, stressing that the ministry's plan for the next three years aims to address this shortfall, and provide 5,000 megawatts as a backup energy, with sufficient financial allocations providing the gas needed to operate the stations.
