Arab Group for Food Safety to Meet Tomorrow

Cairo, September 19 (QNA) - The 13th meeting of the Arab Group for Food Safety will be held at the Arab League Secretariat General's Arab Economic Integration Department Tuesday via video communication.

A statement by the Arab League Secretariat General said today that the Arab Group for Food Safety will discuss over two days many topics, including Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's initiative to establish the Arab regional network for risk communication, which aims to support communication between regulatory authorities in the Arab world, and the exchange of scientific and practical experiences in this field, to become a platform for the exchange of ideas and best practices; with the aim of strengthening the Arab presence at the global level.

The meeting will also discuss the final version of the Arab Food Safety Policy, which was drafted by the Select Team concerned with its preparation and amendment after including the Arab countries' comments on it for approval, and then submitted to the implementation and follow-up committee in preparation for its adoption by the Economic and Social Council.

The Arab Group for Food Safety will review the results of the Arab Regional Forum on Voluntary Third-Party Assurance Approach and Mechanisms, which was attended by the Secretariat General, as well as members of the Arab Group for Food Safety, with the aim of converting the ideas put forward and the recommendations emanating from it into an action mechanism, as well as exploring possible ways to apply such initiatives in the Arab region to maximize their benefit.

The Group will also discuss Tunisia's comments on the draft terms of reference of the Arab Group for Food Safety, which is the document regulating the work of the Group, its tasks and terms of reference. (QNA)
