OIC Calls on UNSC to Approve Full Membership of Palestine in UN

New York, September 19 (QNA) - Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hussein Ibrahim Taha called on the UN Security Council to immediately approve the long-awaited full membership of the State of Palestine in the United Nations, and to provide the necessary international protection.
During the meeting of the Six-Party Committee on Palestine on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York today, the Secretary-General called for mobilizing all political and legal efforts to unify a long-term international consensus on a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue in accordance with international law and United Nations resolutions.
He affirmed the organization's firm position towards the just cause of Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif, calling for revitalizing efforts to launch a peace process under international multilateral auspices, according to a specific timetable, and on the basis of the relevant international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
The OIC Secretary-General stressed the need to continue pressure on the UN Security Council to take practical measures to implement its resolutions to put an end to the illegal colonial settlement policies of the occupier and the illegal occupation in all its manifestations, and to achieve the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, including self-determination, and the independence of the State of Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital and finding a just solution to the Palestinian refugee issue.
