Russia Blacklists UK Foreign Secretary and Chief of Staff

Moscow, January 14 (QNA) - Russia announced today that it has included UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly and Chief of the UK General Staff Patrick Sanders on Russia's sanction list.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said that Cleverly and Sanders were included in the Russian sanction list, noting that the Russian sanction list published recently includes 36 names.

Zakharova added that as a result of the UK government's continued anti-Russian attitude in January 2023, it was decided to add a number of the UK's cabinet members, representatives of law enforcement bodies and the press corps in the Russian sanctions list.

Zakharova stressed that Moscow does not see the need to publish the names of all the new people on the list, because the UK side is fully aware of who those names are.

During a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced his intention to supply Kyiv with Challenger 2 tanks and additional artillery systems.

For its part, the Russian embassy in London criticized the UK's supply of Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine, stressing that they will not help the Kyiv forces turn the balance of the war, but rather will become a legitimate target for the Russian Air Force. (QNA)
