Jakarta, January 16 (QNA) - An earthquake measuring 6.1 magnitude on the Richter scale struck north of the Indonesian island of Sumatra.
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said that the epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 80 km.
There have been no reports of material damage or human losses due to the earthquake so far.
Indonesia is regularly exposed to earthquakes, as it is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire.
In 2004, a 9.1-magnitude earthquake of struck off Sumatra, causing a tsunami that killed 220,000 people across the region. (QNA)
