Vietnamese President Resigns

  • Vietnam

Hanoi, January 17 (QNA) - Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc submitted his resignation today, after days of rumors that he would soon be dismissed as part of a wide-ranging anti-corruption purge, state media reported.

Phuc has "submitted his resignation from his assigned positions, quit his job, and retired", state news agency VNA said.

The resignation follows the dismissal of the two deputy prime ministers in January, as part of an anti-corruption crackdown that also led to the arrest of dozens of other senior officials.

Nguyen Xuan Phuc assumed the position of President of Vietnam in 2021. He was prime minister between 2016 and 2021. (QNA)
