Nationwide Strikes Cripple Vital Sectors in France

  • qna_france_19_1_23

Paris, January 19 (QNA) - Vital sectors across France witnessed on Thursday a nationwide strike over amendment of pension system in the country reform, following declaration of the President Emmanuel Macron to have the retirement age pushed up by two years to 64.
The major strikes caused disruption of air flights, subways and electrical supplies, in addition to the major impact on the operation of schools, health facilities and fuel stations.
President Emmanuel Macron wants to incrementally push the retirement age from 62 to 64 years by 2030, while workers representatives are objecting such proposal, with a rapid increase of the minimum number of years of contribution required for a full pension. (QNA)
