Municipality Ministry Launches Zero Waste Competition for School Students in Cooperation with Education Ministry

Doha, January 21 (QNA) - The Ministry of Municipality announced the launch of a "zero waste" competition, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, to encourage students to participate in the "zero waste" campaign and create new ways to dispose of waste, recycle and protect natural resources.

The competition, which will run from January 22 to March 2, aims at the participation of public and private school students in the three academic stages: primary, preparatory, and secondary, to show their creativity in expressing its subject, through flexibility, originality, innovation, and creating an aware generation of the importance of waste by developing a methodology of thinking about its management.

It also aims to educate and attract young people to volunteer work, spread the message and goals of the "zero waste" campaign so that it reaches the largest segment of society, and highlight the importance of waste disposal through recycling and use, which leads to reducing the need for the use of raw materials, with Preserving the sustainability of natural resources, which contributes to improving the quality of life.

In a statement on Saturday, the Ministry of Municipality stated that the "zero waste" competition includes three sub-competitions in the fields of drawing and photography, including (watercolor - acrylic - pencil - various materials), the digital art competition, which includes (awareness poster - video - digital design - digital photography), and the handicraft competition (waste recycling).

The ministry indicated that there are 27 awards, including nine awards for each educational stage in the three sub-competitions, and determined the financial value for each stage and its distribution, as well as the participation mechanism, controls and required technical standards. It warned that the artwork must be based on the students' creativity and innovation, adding that a specialized internal school committee will sort the artworks, select the best of them, and submit them for nomination and competition to win prizes.
