Doha, January 24 (QNA) - The State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Culture and several Qatari publishers, will participate in the 54th edition of the Cairo International Book Fair (CIBF), due to kick off Wednesday.
The Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) Press and Dar Al Watad for Publishing and Distribution are among the Qatari publishers whose publications will go on display in the book fair which runs through Feb. 6.
The Ministry of Culture's participation in international book fairs seeks to introduce Qatari intellectual production to large audiences of readers to learn about the continuous development in the publishing industry in the State of Qatar, as well as enhancing cooperation and exchanging experiences with workers in the field of culture and the publishing industry.
Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Executive Director of HBKU Press, Bachar Chebaro ascribed the participation to the HBKU's continuous commitment to showcasing its best publications to the Arab and international audiences, given the CIBF's prestige as one of the largest and well established book fairs in the region, and its huge pavilions that accommodate a huge number of publishers from worldwide.
The HBKU Press actively participates in regional and international cultural events out of its keenness to continue backing Arab talents, and pay further attention and appreciation to Arab literature and narration, Chebaro told QNA.
Amira Al Rifai from Dar Al Watad told QNA that 20 of the company's publications would be on exhibition at the Ministry of Culture's pavilion at the CIBF, highlighting the company's recent publications on law, novel, and childrens stories. She hailed the participation in such an international fair as a contribution to introducing the Arab reader to their publications and consolidating the cultural relationship between writers and Arab readers.
The CIBF, one of the most respected book fairs in the region and the world, brings together 1047 publishers and 51 countries. It will feature 500 cultural events on the sidelines of its activities in the presence of a group of poets and writers to discuss the latest publications.
