Tokyo, January 25 (QNA) - An earthquake measuring 4.9 magnitude on the Richter scale shook off occurred off Japan's Fukushima Prefecture on Wednesday.
According to Japan Meteorological Agency, the quake's epicenter was off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture and the focus was about 50 kilometers deep.
No tsunami is expected, and there have been no reports of casualties or material damage.
Japan is widely exposed to major earthquakes and is also home to 100 active volcanoes due to location along the Pacific Ring of Fire.
A devastating 9 magnitude earthquake accompanied by a tsunami hit Fukushima Prefecture in 2011, killing more than 15,000 people and causing a disaster at Fukushima nuclear plant. (QNA)
