New York, June 01 (QNA) - The UN announced that the conflict in Sudan forced more than 1.2 million people to flee inside Sudan.
UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in a press conference that the international organization continues with its partners to help those in need at a time when the conflict has forced more than 1.2 million people to flee inside Sudan.
He pointed out that the estimates are based on the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the initial reports from the field teams, and additional reports are likely to appear with the improvement of humanitarian access.
He indicated that the World Food Programme (WFP) continued to distribute humanitarian aid in Khartoum State, reaching 15,00 besieged people in Omdurman with emergency food.
Across the country, WFP has now reached more than 782,000 people with food support over the past four weeks.
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) also provides emergency communications services to the entire UN system and the broader humanitarian community in Sudan, where availability of communication services remains a major challenge. (QNA)
