Ministry of Culture Holds Symposium on Qatari Military Music in Katara

Doha, June 06 (QNA) - The Ministry of Culture's Music Affairs Center (MAC) held Monday evening a symposium in cooperation with the Qatar Armed Forces Band Regiment, at Katara Drama Theater.

Entitled 'Qatari Military Music', the symposium is part of the Music Salon series, which was launched by the MAC as a permanent activity. Commander of the Military Performances and Music Center, Staff Major Gen. Salem Fahd Al Hababi was a key speaker in the symposium which was moderated by MAC Deputy Director Poet Abdul Hameed Al Youssef.

In his speech, Al Hababi reviewed the history of military music in Qatar, which was founded in early 1949.

He explained that the Qatar Armed Forces Band Regiment has many duties, particularly during the Amiri Diwan ceremonies to welcome HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's guests, the National Day celebration, the graduation of the Armed Forces' colleges and training institutes, the Scientific Excellence Day celebrations, in addition to the sporting events in the State.

He added that the regiment took part in international festivals in the GCC countries as well as foreign countries such as the US, France, Italy, Germany, Russia and China, where it gained much admiration.

Speaking to Qatar news Agency (QNA), Head Manager of the Music Affairs Center Khalid Salem said the Musical Salon continues its efforts to highlight the different types of music, adding that the Qatari Armed Forces Band Regiment has very strong musical potentials, and it has a commitment to playing, performing and military marches.
