Doha, March 05 (QNA) - Vice President of Al Rayyan Sports Club HE Sheikh Ali bin Saud Al-Thani, expressed his happiness at Al Rayyan winning the title of the 40th GCC handball cup for clubs, noting that the club's third GCC title was well-deserved and would be the beginning of many more achievements this season.
Al Rayyan defeated Kuwait's Kuwait Club, the defending champion, 33-32 in the final match held today at the Al Duhail Sports Hall.
His Excellency dedicated the title to President of Al Rayyan Sports Club HE Sheikh Al Qaqa bin Hamad Al Thani, and to all the fans and supporters of Al Rayyan Sports Club.
In a special statement to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), he praised the performance of Al Rayyan players, both during the group stage and in the semi-finals, where they managed to win all their matches and displayed remarkable performances despite some players suffering injuries during the tournament.
He also commended the work of the administrative staff led by Ali bin Saeed Al Khayarin, who oversees handball sports operations at the club, and the coaching staff.
In conclusion, he affirmed that this title marks the beginning of achievements for Al Rayyan Handball Club this season, as the club aims to reach the podium in future tournaments.
It is worth noting that Qatari clubs have won 8 titles in the GCC Clubs Cup for Handball Champions, with Al Sadd winning three times in 2004, 2014, and 2015, Al Rayyan winning twice in 2012 and 2016, Al Ahli once in 2000, and Al Gharafa once in 2017. Kuwait Club won the previous 39th edition, held in Bahrain last year, after defeating Bahrain's Al-Najma 29-27 in the final match. (QNA)
