QU's Center for Advanced Materials Develops High-Quality, Low-Cost Battery Packs
Doha, January 12 (QNA) - A research team from the Center for Advanced Materials (CAM) at Qatar University (QU) is developing high-quality and low-cost battery packs, using innovative materials used in the negative and positive electrodes of the next generation of batteries that operate on lithium and sodium ions.
The CAM team at the center focuses on developing materials to store energy in an inexpensive way, by using microwave synthesis techniques with the aim of significantly reducing the cost of batteries, to facilitate their commercial marketing.
The CAM managed to develop new materials used in these batteries, in a manner appropriate to the climate of the State of Qatar, by making an innovative combination that was accepted to apply for patent registration in the US.
These research efforts come within the framework of facing the challenges related to energy and environmental pollution, which leads to the effective use of renewable energy sources, and the consequent urgent need for high-performance devices to store this energy.
The QU's CAM is cooperating in this research work with the Higher Technical Institute in Portugal, which specializes in this field. (QNA)
