Beirut, June 05 (QNA) - Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri called for a meeting of the Council to elect a president on Wednesday, June 14.
Member of Parliament Michel Moawad announced Sunday withdrawing his candidacy for the presidency in favor of former Minister Jihad Azour.
In this context, Member of Parliament Mark Daou confirmed in a press conference the opposition's candidacy for former Minister Jihad Azour, indicating that he is the candidate capable of protecting Lebanon from collapse and domination.
These developments come after Hezbollah and Amal Movement's candidacy of Suleiman Franjieh for the presidency of the Lebanese Republic, while other movements announced the candidacy of Jihad Azour for the presidency.
Lebanon entered a presidential vacuum on Oct. 31 with former Lebanese President General Michel Aoun leaving the presidential palace after the end of his term, without parliament being able to elect a new president within the constitutional deadline that began in early September. (QNA)
