Qatari Football Team Ranks 61st Globally, 6th in Asia List in Monthly FIFA Ranking

Zurich, September 21 (QNA) - The Qatari football team ranked 61st in the global list and 6th in the Asia list, in September's FIFA monthly ranking released on Thursday.
FIFA stated that it based this ranking on 159 international matches between teams held during September.

The Qatari team fell two ranks where it ranked 59th globally last July.

Between Arab countries in the Asia list, the Saudi Arabia team ranked 5th place (57th globally), followed by Qatar 6th (61st), Iraq 7th (69th), the United Arab Emirates (UAE) 8th (70th), Oman 9th (73rd), Jordan 12th (84th), Bahrain 13th (86th), Syria 14th (93rd) and Palestine 17th (97th).

During September, the Qatari team lost to Kenya by two goals on the 7th and tied with Russia by one goal on the 12th in two friendly matches held at Al Janoub Stadium within the international break included in FIFA's calendar.

The Qatari team is participating in the International Friendly Quartet Tournament in Jordan from October 13 to 17, which will also see the participation of the teams of Iraq, Iran and Jordan. The tournament will be held in a semi-final format, with the Qatari team meeting the Iraqi team on October 13.

The Qatari team, led by Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz, is preparing for the double qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2027 AFC Asian Cup. The draw placed Qatar in Group A alongside India, Kuwait, Afghanistan/Mongolia. Qatar will first face India on November 21.

The team is also preparing to compete in the 2023 AFC Asian Cup hosted by Doha from January 12 and February 10, 2024, in which the team will aim to defend its title that was won in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup in the UAE. (QNA)
