Eid Charity Implements QR454 Million Development Projects through 2015

Doha, January 11 (QNA) - Eid Bin Mohammad Al Thani Charitable Association announced Monday in a press conference that it has conducted relief and development projects with a total cost of QR454 million during 2015 in 59 countries around the world.
The association carried out more than 5700 projects. Relief aids topped the list of these projects, with an amount in excess of QR 118 million. The majority of the amount was directed towards Syrian refugees.
HE Chairman of the board of directors Sheikh Eid Bin Mohammad Al Thani offered his tribute the country's wise leadership for their support, which helped foster Qatar's presence on the development, humanitarian and relief arenas.
During the conference, His Excellency pointed to the growth achieved by the association in foreign projects that amounted to 5772 overseas projects, worth more than QR 394 million. That's in addition to Local cultural, social and advocacy projects that worth QR 60 million.
For his part, Mr. Ali bin Abdullah Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the foundation, said that Eid bin Mohammed Al-Thani Charity Foundation attaches great importance to its projects of local humanitarian, cultural and social as well as its humanitarian efforts in conflict and disaster areas in the world.
Al Suwaidi underlined the continued growth of the association witch backs to people's response to humanitarian calls and crisis in other countries. He added that humanitarian activities have been expanded to comprise further 59 countries indicating that the association's revenue reached 460 million Riyals.
The Director General said that 2.8 million people in 26 countries benefit from the relief projects, which cost about 118 million riyals, while the total number of orphans and families beneficiary of more than 44,000.
Al Suwaidi also pointed that the association has built 469 mosques and 359 houses for people in need as well as has conducted 2852 water projects.
Executive Director of Foreign Projects at Eid Charity Ali bin Khaled al Hajri has briefed details of the foreign projects that worth QR 394 million.
During the conference, a number of directors of departments and centers linked to Eid Charity talked about the most important social, cultural and media projects implemented locally in addition to efforts for introducing Islam which resulted in converting 2049 people, from different nationalities, to Islam.
Speakers hailed the support of the wise leadership in Qatar for charity and humanitarian work. They noted Qatari benefactors' response to all humanitarian campaigns and initiatives. (QNA)
