Doha, November 09 (QNA) - Following the death of 29-year-old Anil Kumar Pasman on Al Wakrah Stadium on Saturday 22 October, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) oversaw an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatality.

In a statement today, the SC said that it was established Mr Pasman suffered fatal injuries after being struck by a water tanker in a tragic accident. The SC has worked hand in hand with the contractors on site and can confirm all appropriate actions were taken following the incident, including notifying the next of kin, the Ministry of Administrative Development and Social Affairs (MOADLSA) and the Nepali Embassy.

The SC has also taken an active role in the repatriation of Mr Pasman’s body, along with ensuring all obligations towards the family are met. The SC has also verified that any worker affected has received or will receive the appropriate counselling if required.

As additional steps, the SC is reviewing the enforcement of health and safety procedures across all projects related to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in an effort to prevent a repeat of this incident in the future.

The Secretary General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy Hassan Al Thawadi, said: "The death of Mr Pasman is truly heart-breaking and my thoughts are with his family at what must be an extremely painful time. This tragedy serves as a profound reminder there is always more to be done – no matter how far we have come in terms of implementing health and safety on our sites.

"We will not accept complacency or a slip in standards on any of our projects. We will continue our commitment to ensuring the safety of the workers on our projects. We will continue to be honest, open and transparent, whilst delivering on our promise to protect those helping us deliver our stadiums. Most importantly, we will learn from this tragic event in order to prevent any repeat in the future."(QNA)
