Suhail Star to Be Spotted in Kuwait on September 5
Kuwait, August 22 (QNA) - Suhail Star will be seen in Kuwait on September 5 and will last for 53 days until October 16. Astronomer and Kuwaiti Historian Adel Al-Saadoun said in a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that Suhail star will appear in the southern half of the Arabian Peninsula on August 24 before the sun rises. Al-Saadoun said that with the appearance of the star there will be improvement in weather, cooling in water, lengthening of shadow, and shorter days and longer nights.
He added that the sun will tilt towards the south near the horizon line and the average temperature for the first days will be between 45 C degrees maximum and 28 C degrees minimum. He pointed out that the lunar calendar of the most of the inhabitants of the Arabian Peninsula is not suitable for the seasons of the year because it progresses 11 days each year.
The Arabs had opted for a lunar calendar to divide the year into several seasons begin with the emergence of Suhail star and then Al-Marbaaniyah season in winter, he said. Al-Saadoun confirmed that the appearance of Suhail at this time coincides with the presence of the earth at the site of its annual cycle around the sun and the sun's height above the horizon will be less on the half of the northern hemisphere, which helps to moderate the weather.
