For his part, CEO of Umm Al Houl Power Company Eng Jamal Ali Al Khalaf said that the aim of signing this MoU is to qualify Qatari engineers and enable them to have the ability to operate and maintain the complicated equipment in the country. He pointed out that Umm Al Houl has Siemens turbines, and this MoU will allow training of newly recruited employees through Siemens, which provides them with the necessary qualifications to work on their turbines, noting that Umm Al Houl Company has 6 gas turbines and 4 steam turbines. Siemens recently celebrated the production of the world's number 1,000 turbines and was handed over to Umm Al Hall.

Chief Executive Officer of Siemens Qatar Adrian K. Wood said: "This MoU further strengthens our long-standing relationship with QEWC, ensuring their power assets continue to operate reliably and efficiently. We believe strongly that knowledge transfer through education and training is an important part of social and economic development, and I look forward to working with QEWC to further develop the skills of the country's engineers." Qatar Electricity and Water Company (QEWC) is one among the first private sector companies in the region that operate in the field of electricity generation and water desalination. The company was established in 1990 as a public shareholding company, in accordance with the provisions of the Qatari Commercial Companies Law, for the purpose of owning and operating power and water plants, and to sell its products.

QEWC is one among the largest companies in the field of electricity generation and water desalination in the Middle East and North Africa region. QEWC is the main supplier of electricity and desalinated water in Qatar. The company has experienced remarkable growth over the past decade in line with the steady growth of the country's economy and the corresponding increase in demand for electricity and water. The company and its joint venture companies together have a capacity of over 11,087 MW of electricity and over 536.50 MIGD of desalinated water (including projects under construction).

Siemens has been working in Qatar since the 1960s and continues to be a key contributor to the country's energy, mobility and city infrastructure. The company has recently handed over operations of the 2.5 gigawatt (GW) Umm Al Houl Combined Cycle Power Plant, which will deliver almost a quarter of the nation's installed power generating capacity, and ensure adequate power and water supply for seasonal fluctuations and major events.

Siemens is also building 35 turnkey substations as part of the nation's plan to expand and strengthen its power network, under Phase 13 of the Qatar Power Transmission System Expansion project. ( END)
