Doha, January 15 (QNA) - The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) hosted the opening of Ektashif - an exhibition which brings together seven Qatari artists and reflects their experiences after a ten-day trip to India. As part of the recently concluded Qatar - India 2019 Year of Culture, Abeer Al Kuwari, Eman Al Saad, Haifa Al Khuzai, Jameela Al Ansari, Maryam Al Sada, Maryam Al Majed and Shaikha Al Kuwari spent ten days in India where they visited sites of historic interest. These have included the Qutub Minar and the Red Fort in Delhi, Amber Palace and Hawa Mahal in Jaipur, and the Red Fort and Taj Mahal in Agra. The artists also attended daily workshop sessions where they discovered the intricate traditional arts of India including marble inlay, known as parchin kari, block printing, jewellery making, carpet weaving and more. MIA supports an active education policy and believes that museums are lively spaces, natural extensions to schools and universities, where learning is exciting. Ektashif is the latest initiative of the museum's education department and aims to inspire the next generation of creators by exposing them to new forms of art. Ektashif is sponsored by Seashore Qatar - a Qatari owned company and one of the largest multi-disciplinary business enterprises in the State of Qatar. (QNA)
