Typhoon Haishen Hits Busan Coast in South Korea, Disrupting Flights
Seoul, September 07 (QNA) - Typhoon Haishen hit on Monday the southern port city of Busan, South Korea, leaving the country under its influence with torrential rains and strong winds. According to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), the tenth typhoon of the season is moving at 41 kilometers per hour over the water, 40 kilometers southeast of Busan. its central pressure at 996 hectopascals, and the maximum wind speed was 35 meters per second. Some 580 houses lost power in southern Busan. The typhoon unleashed torrential rains and triggered a landslide near a tunnel on the road connecting the city with Changwon. Also, 23 riverside and oceanfront roads have been closed as a safety measure against flooding. Trains running between Busan and nearby cities have been halted, and 298 flights have been grounded nationwide, according to the Korea Airports Corporation. Typhoon Haishen comes on the heels of Hurricane Maysak, which swept through the Korean Peninsula last Thursday, leaving at least two people dead, and causing a temporary blackout for thousands of residents. Yesterday, Typhoon Haishen hit southwestern Japan, and was described by the Japan Meteorological Agency as the strongest and most dangerous in decades. (QNA)
