Doha, January 21 (QNA) - The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) announces the completion of the main works of the Improvement of Main Roads in Al Nasr Area project. The completed works included the upgrade of 7 KM of main roads in Al Nasr area in addition to completion of 6 signalized intersections.
Project Engineer in the Roads Projects Department Eng. Rashed Al-Zeyara, said that the newly upgraded roads were provided with new LED street lighting. He also highlighted that the upgrading works executed within the project included improving the infrastructure services such as improving the stormwater network, upgrading 6.5 km of foul sewer network and creating a 5.8 km-long Treated Sewerage Effluent (TSE) network in addition to providing crossing ducts for future infrastructure upgrading and protecting the existing electricity and telecommunication lines. As part of the project, the stormwater drainage network at the intersection of Mohammed bin Qasim Street with Al Kinana Street was also upgraded.
Eng. Al-Zeyara stated that the completed works will make it easier for road users to park and walk to the commercial facilities especially in Al Kinana and Al Mirqab streets as the project provided 1700 parking bays and almost 14 km of pedestrian paths. In addition, the project included pedestrian crossings and lighting systems for the safety of road users.
Eng. Al-Zeyara pointed out that the upgrading works have also significantly enhanced the traffic flow in the area and improved the road network safety level in addition to facilitating access to many residential areas with heavy traffic flow such as Al Mirqab Area, Fereej Al Nasr Area, Fereej Bin Mahmoud Area and Al Sadd Area.
It is worth mentioning that in order to alleviate the traffic congestion and enhance the traffic flow on Al Mirqab Al Jadeed Street, traffic flow was changed to one direction on the two lanes of the street from the intersection with Mohammed bin Qasim Street until the intersection with Suhaim Bin Hamad Street (C-Ring Road). The layout of the rest of the street from the intersection with Mohammed bin Qasim Street towards Al Amir Street is kept unchanged and thus accommodates one lane in each direction.
Ashghal is now in the process of undertaking landscaping works in Al Nasr Areas main streets to enhance their look and feel. These remaining works are scheduled to be completed in the Q2, 2021.(QNA)
