Doha, March 09 (QNA) - United Development Company (UDC), a leading Qatari public shareholding company and master developer of The Pearl-Qatar and Gewan Island, has won the 2020 International Property Award for Corinthia Gewan Island Qatar hotel in the category of Best New Hotel Construction & Design.
Commenting on this international recognition, UDC President and Chief Executive Officer and Member of The Board Ibrahim Jassim Al-Othman, said: "this award is a massive vote of confidence in the iconic Corinthia Gewan Island Qatar Hotel which will be a flagship to modern hospitality not only within Qatar but also in the region." " The energy, vision and quality of resources that UDC has assembled for this project, will ensure that Corinthia Gewan Island Qatar Hotel will be another landmark property that will enrich UDCs portfolio of unique and exceptional projects, set a new benchmark for destination development, design and quality, and maximize Gewan Islands tourism and leisure potential" he added.
The project won the award, after earlier winning the same title in the Arabian Property Awards. The awards which are considered a world-renowned mark of excellence, were judged by a panel of more than 80 industry experts and chaired by members of the UKs House of Lords, taking into account key factors including design, quality, service, innovation, originality, and commitment to sustainability.
The Corinthia Gewan Island Qatar Hotel will be established on an area of 13,000 sqm and will comprise 110 guestrooms including executive rooms, 30 suites and a presidential suite, a banquet hall and outdoor patio with a 1000 people capacity, an all-day dining and specialty restaurants in addition to a distinguished spa facility.
Gewan Island is UDCs latest real-estate project, situated next to The Pearl-Qatar and spanning 400,000 sqm. Once completed, the Island will be home to 657 residential units, including 586 apartments, 20 standalone villas located along a placid beach in a quiet and gated seaside community, as well as 21 beachfront villas with private beach, 26 waterfront villas that are equipped with private pontoons for private boats, and six independent island mansions, in addition to 11,000 sqm of retail spaces and 15 multi-use buildings.
Gewan Island will feature in addition to Corinthia Hotel and its connected golf course and beach club, an air conditioned Crystal Walkway and seaside promenade, parks and green areas, in addition to various entertainment facilities, a sports club and a mosque.
UDC is making major strides in the development of Gewan Island where infrastructure works are well underway in tandem with road and bridge networks connecting Gewan Island to The Pearl-Qatar through Abraj Quartier and a landmark cable-stayed bridge whose pylons have been completed and deck segments casted and currently in installation phase. At the heart of the Island, 15 mixed-use buildings are also progressing rapidly with several buildings already reaching roof level ahead of schedule, making the total raft casted to date 70,000 cbm.
As UDC is managing four major work packages in Gewan Island, it has succeeded in reaching a major safety milestone of five million manhours without any Lost Time Incident (LTI) which demonstrates UDCs unwavering commitment to maintain a safe and healthy working environment for all contractors and workers involved in the project.
