Charleston, April 08 (QNA) - Australian Ashley Barty, ranked number one in the world, qualified for the semi-final round of the Volvo Tennis Open(Volvo Charleston American Tennis Championship), after beating Japanese Misaki Doi in two sets for nothing.
After she was exempted from playing the first round, Barty needed 61 minutes to overtake the world's 77th ranked Japanese (6-2 and 6-1) in the second round of the tournament. In the round of 16, Barty will meet American Shelby Rodgers, who beat her compatriot Amanda Anisimova, number 13, in two sets to one (1-6, 7-5 and 6-4).
American, second-seeded Sophia Keenan, bid farewell to the tournament after losing to her compatriot Lauren Davis, ranked 79 in the world, two sets to one (6-4, 3-6 and 4-6). Tunisian Ons Jabeur also qualified for the semi-final round by defeating American Haile Baptiste in two clean sets (6-3 and 6-3). The Tunisian player will meet French Alise Cornet, who defeated the seventh seeded Belgian Elise Mertens, in two clean sets (7-5 and 6-3). (QNA)
